DIY Stringing My Purple Flip Flops

Welcome to the second blog on stringing flip flops. These are the ones I am stringing today. As you can see today I am stringing a pair of purple leopard print flip flops with ivory puff ball ribbon.

You'll need a pair of flip flops, 12 - 18 inches of satin cording and a yard of the puff ball ribbon.

Step One: Cut off the plastic piece that goes over the foot. This leaves the three holes in the shoe for your ribbon and cording to be strung.
Step Two: Cut the 18" cording in half. Each shoe will need 9". Then fold the 9" in half and knot the cording where you feel it will fit between your toes the best. You may need to adjust this later depending on where it feels comfortable between your toes.
Step Three: Push the satin cording up through the bottom of the shoe so the loop is on top. This will be used between your toes and to hold the side puff ball ribbon in place. Run the puff ball ribbon through the toe loop.
Step Four:  Then push each end of the puff ball ribbon through the side holes on each side of the shoe.

Step Five: Place flip flop on your foot and pull the puff ball ribbon through the holes on the bottom until the shoe has a comfortable fit on your foot. This is were you may want to adjust the toe loop for a better fit.
Step Six: Once you have the ribbon where you want it, place pins in the ribbon. Remove flip flop from foot.
Step Seven: Pull the ribbon all the way through the holes to the back so you have enough room to knot it. Make a knot as close as you can to the pins.
Step Eight: Pull the ribbon back through to the holes to the top of the flip flop. The knots should slide into the holes previously made for the plastic piece. Carefully place glue underneath the knot to insure it doesn't pull out of the hole. Be careful not to use a lot of glue as it will come out of the hole on the top part of the shoe and make the ribbon hard against the foot.
Here is the completed newly string flip flop. Now do the other one to match. =)

DIY Flip Flopping My Flip Flops

Flips flops are a dollar store find this year. I saw a woman restring her flip flops and thought "What a GREAT idea!" DIY my own pair! The plastic piece in between my toes always causes me pain and scratches my skin raw when I walk. Usually they become uncomfortable after a few hours of wear.
I was in the dollar store the other day and bought almost a pair of every color they have. I think I left only the orange color on the wall.
This set I used 6 strands of shiny satin cording. I measured it up against the plastic piece on the shoe and added 5"- 6" for braiding and knotting. I braided the front part that fits through your toes with three sets of two strands each. Total 6 strands.

After I got the braiding as long as I wanted in between the toes, I separated my 6 strands out into two sets of three strands each side. Then braided out the sides with 3 strands each. Then I threaded the braided strands through the side holes to the bottom of the sandals. I fitted the scandals to my feet. I knotted the strands and pushed them up into the holes.
They are knotted at the bottom of the sandals.
The knots fit into the holes where the plastic pieces use to be so you don't feel the knots when you walk.

These are much more comfy on my feet now. They don't scratch or rub my skin off. I can wear them all day if I want and don't even notice them.
I wish I had taken pictures while I was doing it but I wasn't really sure it would work. Well, I have a few more sandals to work on and I will definitely take pictures of those in the process. ;-)

Pool Tote

I was out looking for a tote to take to the pool for my rehabilitation. I found this extra large tote at Target. It is so roomy. I'm so happy I found it. I can fit two large beach towels, my clothes, swim suit, shoes, and I haven't even filled it half way up. It still has room for more. Yay!!
I love the lace overlay and the large leather over the shoulder strap. It has two hand straps that fit on the shoulder as well. Although, I haven't decided which way is more comfortable to carry it yet.

Personal Cow Fan

This little fan is just so cute. Its a little cow with a propellers on its head. I picked this one up at the dollar store. I've seen a variety of them around town but the cow is the cutest I've seen. This little guy fits prefectly in my purse. I take it with me everywhere. It is soooo good for those hot summer days or those pesky cancer hot flashes. Since none of our cars have AC's its good to have. =)
That brings me to Cancer!
There are lots of things that no one tells you when you have cancer. Then there are little suggestions that other patients tell you along the way. This is one of those suggestions another patient told me about while we sat in the chair.
"Ya need to get a small hand held fan. When those hot flashes start you'll use it. Believe me honey, YOU'LL USE IT!"
I've been looking for one ever since.
It is funny when your going through chemotherapy and radiation you start having hot flashes. I thought hot flashes.. no problem, so I get a little hot! Laughing NOW.....not then.
None of my doctors explained that the hot flashes come on really fast and you get so hot that you get dizzy and start to pass out. After chemo they started to slow down. But, when I started radiation the hot flashes amped back up again. I had radiation in the middle of winter. When we left the house my mother would be wearing a heavy coat because it was 30 degrees outside. I was wearing a t-shirt and complaining that it was too hot outside. I'm so glad that they are starting to slow down again just in time for summer.
WOW! Hot flashes another cancer side effect!!

Tropical Swim Suit

This is a fun tropical looking swim suit. It has multiple tiers of ruffles and a key hole in the front. It is a halter top that ties up around the neck from center front. I love how the fuchsia, green and teal colors of the flowers and plants stand out against the white background.

I found this fuchsia lace bathing skirt to wear with it. It has the bikini bottoms with a lace overlay.

I bought the black bathing skirt to wear with my other lace swim suit but I can wear it with this top too. I don't know if I like the fuchsia or the black skirt with this top better.

Here is the lace bathing skirt that I bought for my black lace swim suit top. It also has the bikini bottoms under the lace overlay.

Mint Green Crochet Halter

This is a closet find. I bought this mint green halter top a number a years ago. I have no idea where I got it. I just found it again in my closet. I have never worn this top.
I have never worn a top without a bra. Now that I had a mastectomy I am looking at breast in a whole new way. My breast are no longer being taken over by gravity like other women my age. I feel I can go bra less.

The front has an hand embroidered of a large flower on the right and a smaller on the left in darker teals and bronze colors.

I like the way the back of the halter is long and covers the lower back. So many of these crocheted halters are backless or just all string.
This is an up close of the pattern for any of you crochet gays out there that want to try and make one.

I'm waiting for a nice hot day without rain to wear it. Here in Oregon that will probably be July.

Music Spa Towel Wrap

Musical notes are spread out all over the towel wrap. This one is embroidered with white notes on a black terry cloth background. This design was inspired by a friend of mine that loves music and plays guitar. Spa wrap has a Velcro hook loop closure in the front. Elastic in the back provides comfort and allows to expand for a proper fit without it falling down. Towel wraps are wonderful to use at the beach, pool side, sitting and putting on make up or just drying off getting out of the tub.

Measurements
Small/Medium = 30-37" Bust and up to 44" Hip.
 Medium/Large =  33-52" Bust and up to 68" Hip
Plus Size =  52-88" Bust and up to 100" Hip
Top to Bottom is 29"

New Bathing Suit

I started rehab on my arm and back this week. I was referred to pool therapy. The pool is low impact on the body. The density of the water makes your movement slow and is in itself weight resistant. I can't wait to start. Getting into a nice warm pool without children running around sounds so wonderful.
Well if I am getting into a pool I need something to wear. The last bathing suit I bought I was a 19 year old size 6. That was so long ago. Now I am a plus size woman. How did that happen?
As a recovering cancer survivor I need to find something to accommodate my breast expander and hide my mastectomy scars. I have breast expander in until I can have surgery to put in my implants later in the year. I can't have a top that uses my boobs to hold up the bathing suit. It hurts to much in that area. I needed something that ties and has some support.

After going through quite a few suits and being drawn to those really cute ones, only to find out that they don't come in my size. I finally found this bathing suit top that I liked. It is black lace halter top. I bought black so I can buy bottoms in different colors. This swim suit top fits me really well. It hides my tummy and it provides me with the breast support I need. Plus, I love how it makes me feel like a woman again. That is something that is hard to get back after cancer. It is the perfect top for me under $20.00

Rose Spa Towel Wrap

This is the rose spa towel wrap with a pink rose on grey terry towel. The towel wrap has a Velcro, hook and loop closure on the front. It has an elastic band in the back to insure a nice comfortable fit without the worry of it slipping down in the front. Towel wraps are great at the beach or pool side.
I designed this rose from a rose out of the garden. It was a beautiful rose in full bloom. I digitized this rose design. The rose is copyrighted by Mischyf Couture.

My Dollar Store Challenge - Feather Christmas Tree

I started this craft project before Christmas 2012. I really wanted one those feather Christmas trees that I kept seeing all over the place. I thought I could make one no problem. Yeah right!!

This is what I was trying to achieve. hahaha

I bought a triangle shape form and bags of white feathers from Dollar Tree.

This is the what my project turned out looking like.
I think I failed the challenge.

I  think I will sit down and try to figure it out and try again.

My New Purse

I don't buy myself clothes or extras very often. I haven't bought anything like this for a long while. I saw this beautiful color sitting on a shelf and I had to go look. It turned out to be this rather large purse. I don't normally buy large purses but I couldn't pass this one up.
I love how bright this lavender is. It just brightens my day. I usually like my hands free and this one has two large shoulder straps. The material is so soft and pliable to the touch. I just love the feel of it.
I realized after I got home how much stuff I need to carry with me now. My medicines, Diabetes meter, my phone, my i-pad to read books and keep track of my Doctors appointments. There is a lot that doesn't fit in a small purse anymore.
There are two large pockets on the outside of the purse. They make up the front and back of the purse. The pockets go all the way down to the bottom. They close with a magnetic button at the top.

Then there is the main part of the purse that has this long zipper across the center. There are three more small pockets inside. One for the phone, one for your sunglasses and of course what would a purse be if it didn't have that small zipper pocket to hold make up or loose change. Not bad for a purse under $40.00. I found it at Target.

I guess I finally graduated to the big girl purse. =)
