From Sketch to Embroidery - Iris

I designed the iris from a picture of an iris I drew when I was in high school. The drawing has been on my wall in every apartment I have ever lived in. I made the 3D version of my embroidery from the drawing. I am experimenting with ribbon in this photo for the leaves and stem. I really like how the above photo turned out.

Cherry Blossoms Pillow

I used my cherry blossom design that I created a few years ago for this pillow. This is one of my first embroidery designs that I created. I was inspired by the cherry blossom trees in the neighborhood. Every year when Spring rolls around the cherry blossom trees bloom. By the end of May the air fills with pink and white petals as they float to the ground. It looks like it is snowing in shades of pink.

This pillow uses two rows of pink ribbon running vertically dividing the pillow into sections. The cherry blossom design is embroidered onto the tan cotton pillow. I added single cherry blossoms to the top of the branches and floating them down the front to make it look as if they were falling off the tree. This technique creates a 3D effect with the cherry blossoms.

Pink Eiffel Tower Pillow

I have spent all day working on finishing this pillow cover today. The Eiffel Tower was embroidered in black on pink fabric a few months ago. It was starting to become a UFO (unfinished object) that sat on top of a pile of stock towels glaring at me every time I entered the room. You could almost hear it saying finish me, pleassssse finish me. Today I decide to complete it. As I started the project I realized that it was cut out in with the old pillow pattern. I soon realized I needed to make modifications to it and this wasn't going to be as simple as I thought. In order to get the pattern to work right I ended up adding a black border around the outside to frame the Eiffel Tower. After many hours of playing with the borders I finally got it to fit together correctly. I am very pleased with how it turned out.

The Eiffel Tower is a very popular iconic image that is found in home decor. The color of pink is the popular color of a girls room. With this pillow cover I combined the pink fabric with the Eiffel Tower embroidered in black.

My pillow covers are offered in many sizes, 10x10, 12x12, 14x14, 16x16 and 18x18.

Travel Pillows

Travel pillows are here!

I came up with the idea of travel pillows when I came across an airline pillow I received on a flight as a child. I remember holding my dads hand and walking through the door as the stewardess greeted us with "Good Morning and Welcome Aboard!". After we took off she came by and gave me a pin of plastic wings. Later, when it came to night she gave me a pillow. I acquired two of them from our trip. I received one with a blue pillow case on the way there and one with a yellow gold pillow case on the way back. They were 12" long by 9" wide.

After we returned home from our travels, I used these pillows in my cradle my grandpa made. I still have them from all those years ago. I now have a porcelain doll I made a number of years ago sleeping on top of the pillows in the cradle.

A few years ago I had a flight to Chicago for a seminar and asked the flight attendant for a pillow. I found that they were nothing like I had received as a child. I was given this its y bits y tiny white thing that barely covered an ear and it didn't have a pillow case.  It was just a tiny white pillow form that didn't really have a lot of stuffing in it. Honestly, it was a poor substitute from years ago.

I was recently cleaning my out my storage and pulled out my cradle with the pillows. I thought others might like too purchase their own pillow. I am making the travel pillows like they use to make when I was a child, only with a little bit of embroidery on the edge of the pillow case. =)

I hope you enjoy them!

Lilacs are Purple

 Lilacs are Purple

I have renamed the pillow that was previously listed as purple cube to Lilacs are purple.

This pillow with a lilac design features embroidered diagonal lines that create a geometric diamond across the fabric creating a wonderful background for the lilacs to float upon. Lilac petals are machine embroidered and hand sewn to my pillow. Glistening Swarovski Crystals are placed in the center of each lilac petal giving the flower look. My pillow of purple lilacs is an elegant look for any room.

Measures 12" x 12" inches.

Question of the decade!

What where you doing on 9/11?

My 9/11 story begins at work, 6:00am on the West Coast. I was covering the help desk that morning. My phone rang and it was Simon from England. He needed help with an issue on one of the banks servers.  While we were talking he said a plane just hit a building in New York City. A few minutes later he said I better hang up, I think the US is under attack. After he hung up I went home with a bad case of the flu. I was told by an Englishman, 6000 miles away about an event that would change the world 3000 miles away.

So, What where YOU doing on 9/11?
